Our Allotment

If you are in KS2 and would like to help in the allotment please contact Miss Tate. Gardening club will be starting again on Thursday 25th February 2010. We need to get the beds ready for planting and we will start to sow some seedlings.

The Barnsley Probation Service have worked hard to transform our wildlife garden into an allotment area.  Classes use the allotment in their lessons and a gardening club will meets with Miss Tate on arranged dates during and after school.

The first set of photographs show the allotment immediately after it was finished. Subsequent photographs show developments throughout the year.

Last summer we planted the following fruit and vegetables and most of the produce grew well:

Broccoli, cabbage, spinach, green beans, peas in pods, broad beans, sprouts, carrots, onions, tomatoes, courgettes, peppers, lettuces, radishes, basil, coriander, strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries, red currants, rhubarb and plumbs.

The vegetables that we grow are used in the new kitchen that has been built for use by the children!  Any surplus crop is sold by Mr Lee and Miss Tate on an 'as and when' basis to raise money which will be invested back into the garden.

By July 14th we had raised £16!

By September 14th we had raised £34!

By October we had raised over £50!

Thank you to everybody who has supported the school allotment.
